In 2008, ATK provided 10 Urban Ventures kids the trip of a lifetime by inviting them to Cape Canaveral, FL to witness a live shuttle launch! It was truly an unforgettable experience! ATK has also come around Urban Ventures as Tournament Sponsor at our annual Urban Golf Classic. Urban Ventures 2008/09 Annual Report was designed printed by ATK Communications Team. This fall, ATK employees provided more than 80 students with brand new shoes!

Cargill Foundation generously supports our Learning Lab. With their generosity, we created a learning experience called Plant the Seed. The focus was to teach students about nature, agriculture and nutrition. Students planted seeds in our Imaginarium classroom, then transferred adult plants to our Community Garden. Produce grown was used to prepare meals in our Kid’s Café. Through Plant the Seed, students also learned about seeds of hope and opportunity in themselves!

Carlson Family Foundation partners with our youth programs, LaVictoria and PowerHouse, to match each student in the program with an adult mentor. Our relationship with the Carlson Family Foundation has lead to opportunity to work with Wilder Research Foundation to create an assessment to track program outcomes.

Together, General Mills and Urban Ventures provide Kix Field, a world-class soccer field, for more than 200 Urban Stars athletes. General Mills was a crucial partner in the building of the Colin Powell Youth Leadership Center, and continues to extend their generosity by providing general operating support to benefit all Urban Ventures programs. In 2008, General Mills honored Art Erickson as one of their “Local Legends.”

Through Target’s generosity to our People’s Exchange program, each person in Urban Ventures programming receives a monthly food bag and access to clothing, household goods, and hygiene items. In total, this benefits more than 3,000 people a year!
