- The Need
Urban Ventures began out of a desperate
need for hope in South Minneapolis. Hope for lives free of
violence…hope for educational opportunities… hope
for families…and most importantly, a hope for a brighter
future. Our mission, to build successful community in
the city, works to reestablish that hope through three
strategies:
- Developing Youth by raising up a new generation of
urban leaders who are excellent educationally, technically,
vocationally and morally
- Strengthening Families by nurturing and empowering
families and faith-based communites
- Creating Meaningful Work Opportunities by restoring
the economic engine of the community
Founded in 1993, Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation strives
to be a positive catalyst for neighborhood transformation by
offering a supportive hand-up to the least, the last, and the
lost of the Central and Phillips neighborhoods of South Minneapolis.
Our holistic approach to community development targets the underlying
causes of urban breakdown, rather than simply addressing the
symptoms. It is our belief that this mindset ultimately leads
to lasting change and empowered people, two essential components
of healthy communities.
Although lasting change does not come easily or quickly, we
know that our continued diligence and investment into the community
will help to stop the band-aid solutions that have been applied
to the problems of the inner-cities for too long. We recognize
that systemic change is the only way to effectively address
the problems and create solutions for our neighborhood.
