Working Hours
Monday: 10:00am-4:00pm, Tuesday: 11:00am-9:00pm, Thursday: 11:00am-9:00pm (schedule is flexible)
Major Resposibility
- The female youth outreach intern will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining a careload of 8 girls, and will build support relationships with school, family and other community organizations. She will provide leadership in the various types of PowerHouse programming.
The following are the major accountabilities of this position:
- Pursue and build relationships with youth and their parents through one-to-one mentoring and home visits.
- Maintain and manage an active careload of 8 female program participants.
- Lead and facilitate youth support groups.
- Teach Biblical concepts in a relevant manner related to urban youth.
- Maintain updated file (paper and electronic) on all youth.
- Make school visits to teachers, administrators and other personnel connected to the youth.
- Provide leadership at camps, retreats, special events, and other activities.
- Camping overnights
- Tuesday and Thursday night events
- MLK weekend retreat
- Other weeknight, weekend and overnight events
- Administer surveys with program participants used to measure program’s success.
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards, modeling for youth a Christ-centered lifestyle.
- Perform other duties as identified or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Ministry or related field preferred.
- 2 years or more of experience working with urban youth required.
- Ability to motivate, coach, guide, and lead youth in a positive manner; leading by example in encouraging youth to step out of their comfort zone.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team of fellow youth workers.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in an urban environment, with a diverse group of youth.
- Ability to come up with new strategies for meeting youth needs.
- Exhibit proficient computer and database skills (MS Office, Outlook, CRM).
- Have personal vehicle for use in transporting youth.
- Ability to participate in rigorous physical activity as well as outdoor activities (camping, etc).
